Zakynthos (Zante), the third largest island in the Ionian Sea is a magnificent verdant island with fertile valleys, an impressive coastline with sandy beaches, striking secluded coves and dramatic rugged cliffs.
The Venetians called the island “Fioro di Levante” (flower of the East) due to its impressive fertility and made it the gem of their empire, leaving their stamp on Zante island. Saint Mark square, the Venetian Castle, Solomos square named after the poet Dionisios Solomos who wrote the “Hymn to Liberty” which became later the Greek National Anthem, are some of the hidden gems of Zakynthos Town, the capital of the island.
